Estonian MEP Unveils Anti-Putin Initiative
MEP Tunne Kelam has proposed a five-step initiative to stop Russian President Vladimir Putin's influence on the rest of Europe.
The plan, which will be handed to the European Parliament, would apply to international financial transactions and stop Putin from laundering money in Europe, uudised.err.ee reported today.
The list of personal sanctions should be widened to all Russian MPs who voted for the annexation of the Crimea, as well as Kremlin officials, oligarchs and both Putin and his MP Dmitri Medvedev.
Another step would be to stop all arms sales and weapons development cooperation with Russia.
IT and telecommunications sanctions should also be considered to stop Russian propaganda, said Kelam, who represents IRL in Estonia.
A fifth action would be strengthen joint EU defense capabilities, the European People's Party MEP said, and improve decision making speed and efficiency of top EU organs.
