Final coalition agreement on the brink
The Reform Party, the Social Democrats and IRL have achieved consensus on the main questions of the coalition talks, how many ministries each party will get and who will name the Parliament's board.
Reform Party Chairman Taavi Rõivas said he hopes to have the final agreement signed this week.
“This does not mean we have agreed on everything. Much depends on the last details,” he said.
Rõivas said the coalition will reduce labor taxes, increase child benefits and push through administrative reform. Fuel, alcohol and tobacco excise duties will increase, he added.
Sven Mikser, Social Democrats leader, said the agreement will be made public and everyone will be able to compare the treaty to election programs. His IRL counterpart, Urmas Reinsalu, said the most important factor is that the coalition agreement will be politically doable and will bring about changes in society.
Eiki Nestor (Social Democrat) will be the coalition's candidate for the speaker post and Helir-Valdor Seeder (IRL) will be nominated for the first deputy speaker post.
