Parliament discussing Estonian migration policy as a matter of national importance
On the initiative of the Parliament's European Union Affairs Committee, Estonian migration policy is discussed as a matter of significant national importance at the sitting of the plenary assembly of the Estonian Parliament today, 13 October at 10:00.
The Chairman of the European Union Affairs Committee Kalle Palling said today's discussion will have an important role in shaping the future of Estonian migration policy and be a good start to a trans-party debate. "Refugee crisis in Europe has deepened. The Government has approved an action plan for receiving war refugees, and on the basis of this plan, the Parliament should strive towards a trans-party migration policy," Palling said.
Palling, Minister of Internal Affairs Hanno Pevkur, Minister of Social Protection Margus Tsahkna and Chairman of the Estonian Refugee Council Eero Janson will present reports at the sitting. Each MP has the right to pose one question to each speaker. The presentations will be followed by speeches of the representatives of factions and a debate.
Estonia has agreed to resettle over 500 refugees within next two years. It is currently preparing to admit first families.
