Scouts Battalion Starts Foreign Mission Training
Exercises to prepare servicemen to take over the next Scouts Batallion rotation in Afghanistan are starting today in Lääne and Harju counties.
During the five-day Gleipnir training exercise, around 200 servicemen will be learning foreign mission skills including patrolling, working check points and detecting homemade explosive devices.
"Glepnir is the first of three exercises in our training cycle, where we rehearse mission-specific tasks and evaluate outcomes," said Lt. Col. Vahur Karus, commander of the Scouts Battalion.
The next two exercises, Gungnir and BAM, will take place at the Adazi training area in Latvia, where the infantry company's performance will be assessed.
The Estonian military has participated in NATO's ISAF mission in Afghanistan since 2003. The Estcoy-13 infantry unit currently deployed in the country's southern Helmand province is also manned by the Scouts Battalion.
