Estonian citizen arrested at Navalny protests in Moscow, now freed
One of the more than 100 people arrested in Moscow on Tuesday at anti-Kremlin demonstrations was an Estonian citizen, who has now been released.
The Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs was in contact with Russian authorities, with media reports saying the others are still under arrest. Konstantin Kuzmin, the Estonian citizen in question, was released around noon on Wednesday.
“The rights of one of our citizens has been violated and the person has been unable to contact a consul for 12 hours, although the consul has been trying hard to meet him. One can only speculate on the situation of those without a EU passport,” Estonian political activist Jevgeni Krištafovitš wrote on his social media site on Tuesday evening.
He added that a court hearing was supposed to take place today, but was postponed and has now been cancelled.
Navalny, one of Russia's best-known anti-Kremlin activists, received a suspended sentence while his brother was handed a three-and-a-half year jail term, after which Navalny urged people to protest.
