Estonian Troops End Their Africa Mission
The four-month mission in the Central African Republic is over and the 50 Estonian troops will arrive back home in a few days.
The mission began at the beginning of May with troops tasked with providing security in the war-torn nation.
Estonians led over 100 patrols in the capital Bangui, half of them during night-time, provided security for ten convoys, took part in dozens of operations and guarded the EUFOR base.
Unlike previous combat missions in Iraq and Afghanistan, Estonian troops suffered no casualties, coming under fire once.
The EU mission in CAR will last until the end of the year, with troops from France, Spain, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Italy, Finland, Romania, Poland, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, UK and Georgia participating.
Sectarian violence between Christians and Muslims broke out last year, when the nation's first ever Muslim president, Michel Djotodia, took office.
