No student referendum on Aaviksoo appointment
The student union at the Tallinn University of Technology (TUT) has decided not to organize a non-biding referendum on the appointment of Jaak Aaviksoo as the university's new head.
The student union decided that a referendum would not help build dialog between students and the rector, and any result of a student vote would be non-biding, Postimees reported.
Hundreds of students petitioned for a referendum, although the reasons lie more in wanting to open a serious dialog between Aaviksoo and students than a protest against his election as rector.
Aaviksoo, who previously has been the head of rival University of Tartu and a IRL government minister, was elected by a 11-strong committee in mid-May, collecting eight votes.
