Business Students Take First Electronic Finals
On May 10 and 11, students at the Mainor Business School, a private college based in Tallinn, became the first in the history of Estonian higher education to take their final exams in an electronic format.
According to Tauno Õunapuu, vice rector at the college, the entire course management has been carried out electronically for many years so computerizing the finals was the next logical step.
The electronic exam system was developed by the institution's own IT-specialists. "Compared to a variety of freeware testing environments, our IT experts' version is more user-friendly and has a higher level of security," said Õunapuu, adding that the system functioned smoothly during the exam.
A total of 344 students from the college's learning centers in Tallinn and Tartu took their finals simultaneously. The feedback they gave on the new electronic exam environment was positive.
"A big plus was that the answers could easily be changed, while with a paper version it would have been necessary to scribble to alter the answers," said marketing graduate Janika Möls.
