In light of globally increasing incidents of school shootings – including one just across the Gulf of Finland – the Ministry of Education is compiling a practical response guide for such emergencies.

The document will be released before the end of the year as part of a project headed by a school in the Rocca al Mare district of Tallinn. A few years ago, local schools only practiced fire evacuations, but the realization of a harrowing new threat in schoolhouses around the world has become a central theme in security, general education specialist Siiri Lepasaar told Delfi.

"We witness more cooperation with local police authorities since the law requires all schools to create a corresponding action plan," said Lepasaar.
