Estonia Becomes Member of UNESCO Biosphere Program
Estonia has been chosen as a member of the international coordinating council of the UNESCO’s program Man and Biosphere (MAB).
Toomas Kokovkin, member of the Advisory Committee of the National Commission for UNESCO, will represent Estonia in the program.
In total, 34 countries are selected to coordinate the program during a four-year term.
The main aim of the research program is to ensure the balanced development of global biological diversity alongside human cultures.
According to Marten Kokk, Estonian Ambassador to UNESCO, the nation has become significantly more active in the organization’s activities. In the recent years, the country has also been member of the Intergovernmental Committee for Safeguarding Intangible Heritage and is currently part of the World Heritage Committee.
