Former Police Official Found Guilty of Embezzlement
The former head of the South Prefecture's anti-narcotics unit, Jarek Pavlihhin, was found guilty on Tuesday of embezzlement, disclosing state secrets and falsification.
Tartu County Court handed Pavlihhin, 35, a 2.5-year conditional prison sentence, which is to be reduced by the eight months he spent in preliminary detention from April to December, uudised.err.ee reported.
The ex-official was also fined 15,300 euros in addition to 1,300 euros in legal fees.
Between 2006-2011, Pavlihhin provided expense documents that were purportedly for paying a police informant, but that money did not reach the individual, according to uudised.err.ee.
The details of the indictment, however, are classified and the court proceedings were closed to the public.
