London Court Gives Galojan Another Break
The extradition hearing of former socialite and convicted embezzler Anna-Maria Galojan was put on hold for another month on February 29 when a magistrate's court in London decided to grant her more time to prepare her case.
It was the second break for Galojan, who was given a two-week deferral and released on bail after her arrest by UK authorities on February 14.
The conditions of her bail remain in force, namely she must continue to report at a police station daily, Postimees reported.
Galojan, who fled to the UK in January to avoid serving a five-month prison sentence in Estonia, has earlier said that she is applying for political asylum in the country.
Last May, Galojan was convicted of stealing around 60,000 euros from the non-profit group European Movement Estonia, which she was heading in 2007, and using the money for personal shopping sprees.
The Tallinn District Court handed her a sentence of 1 year and 10 months, which included five months of jail with the rest suspended. After the Supreme Court rejected her appeal, she was due to report at Tallinn Prison on February 7 to begin serving her time.
