Final Stretch of Census Hardest for Enumerators
The final few days of the population census will prove the toughest for enumerators as they will have to fill in all the gaps that have arisen during the counting process, the head of the project Diana Beltadze has said.
With 17 days to go before the end of the census, a total of 1.23 million people - 94 percent of the estimated population - have now been counted, the latest data show.
However, accrding to Beltadze the figure is not completely accurate due to duplication. She estimates that around 20 percent of population has yet to be counted.
In addition, the enumerators have to clarify the status of at least 70,000 residents and 20,000 empty dwellings, Postimees reported.
The online census, which ended in late January, has caused a lot of confusion for the enumerators because the system allowed people to insert any address as their residence, said Beltadze. This resulted in the accumulation of false information that now needs to be checked.
"I am afraid to even imagine how census-takers will cope with boosting the data quality, which is already tough on an emotional level," Beltadze said today.
