Language Training Support to Extend to NGOs
The Integration and Migration Foundation Our People has announced a call for projects designed to beef up the Estonian skills of third sector employees, with a total of over 60,000 euros in grant money earmarked for top proposals.
In a March 13 statement, the state-backed foundation said that its plan for this year is to expand its language training programs, which had previously covered public sector workers, to include those in the NGO sector as well.
"According to 2010 research into integration programs, civil and social activity is lower among those people who don't have a sufficient level of Estonian fluency. This, in turn, leads to alienation and distrust of the state," said Eduard Odinets, the foundation's head of lifelong education.
The foundation said it was expecting proposals from umbrella organizations, cultural associations, non-profits working with youth and sports unions.
The deadline for applications is April 22.
