Youth Dance Event to Take Over Freedom Square on Easter Sunday
Local churches, rallied by the Christian organization Agape Europe, are holding a dance event at Tallinn's Freedom Square this weekend.
Hoping to attract hundreds of youths on Easter Sunday, the initiative starts at 14:00 and is part of “Heartbeat Tallinn,” a week of church- and city-organized events.
Dancers will move to hit songs by Israel Houghton, an American Christian singer and worship leader, who fuses gospel, jazz and rock. Houghton will perform in Tallinn in July.
The event's artistic director, Lehari Kaustel, said Freedom Square will bloom. “Every dancer will, in a choreographed style, plant one flower into flower bed to inspire people to find and discover more beauty around themselves,” said Kaustel.
To partake in the "spontaneous" street dance flashmob, participants can register at http://www.2012.ee/flash/ and a rehearsal will take place on Wednesday at 20:00 at Tallinn's Liivalaia Gümnaasium.
Agape Europe is the Western European branch of Campus Crusade for Christ, an interdenominational movement that was founded in 1951 in the USA.
The event is also supported by the “Let's Do It!” civic initiative, which holds a trash cleanup and communal landscape gardening event on May 5, as well as the Tallinn Flower Festival, which opens on May 25.
