70,000 Euros Donated So Far in Ice Bucket Challenge in Estonia
The Estonian Neuromuscular Disorder Association has received 70,000 euros as the result of people participating in the viral ice bucket challenge.
Jüri Lehtmets, a board member at the association, said they are now pondering what to do with the windfall, with equipment, holidays for care staff and studies as possible ideas.
Lehtmets said Estonia has around 70 people suffering from muscular disorders in Estonia, including from ALS, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, which was made famous by the ice bucket challenge.
He said one priority is for sufferers to receive treatment at their own homes.
The association's main role will remain organizing support groups, but they plan to launch a fund where sufferers can write to and ask for what they need.
He said the money brings responsibility to use it wisely.
The ice bucket challenge, whereby people have a bucket of ice cold water poured over their heads to simulate the feeling of muscular weakness, has done the rounds with celebrities and politicians in Estonia. Watch videos, including of Prime Minister Taavi Rõivas, getting drenched here.
