Defense League Exercise is Storm Within a Tempest
Adding to the weather-related chaos on the nation's roads today, the Defense League happens to be holding an exercise called, aptly, "Hurricane."
Motorists in western Estonia can expect a few delays as convoys consisting of members of the home guard will be on the roads. They will head to the exercise area in Pärnu County and back to Lääne County and Saaremaa on Sunday.
"We've tried to choose our route to pose as little disruption to traffic as possible and use light-duty roads," said Capt. Jaanus Tuulik of the Western district logistics staff.
The most critical bottleneck will be a stretch of the Via Baltica between 20:00 and 22:00 tonight, said Tuulik.
Maximum speeds for military convoys are 70 kilometers per hour on asphalt and 50 kilometers per hour on gravel, but due to the whiteout conditions, they will likely be ordered to travel slower.
