Tallinn and Harju Launch E-Card System on Buses
Today is the first day that public transport passengers in the capital region can use a new chip card for paying carfare.
National ID cards have been accepted for years, but now Tallinn and Harju County have launched their own combined card that can be loaded with credit, called the e-card and part of the e-ticket system.
A total of 570 public transport vehicles in Tallinn and 95 in Harju County are equipped with validating machines.
The chip cards can also be used for admission to museums and other functions may be added later, according to the City of Tallinn.
The refundable deposit for issuance of cards is 2 euros. The old ticket system will remain in parallel use until the end of the year.
