State to Receive Record Quantity of EU Food Aid
Officials estimate EU food aid will help support 140,000 people in Estonia this year, with 3,237 tons of staple food, including sugar, flour, noodles, rice, buckwheat, as well as 394,000 liters of food oil.
The Estonian Agriculture Registers Board had applied for 4.95 million euros worth of food and the European Commission agreed to provide aid to the sum of 2.27 million euros, a statement said.
Last year, 120,000 people qualifying for subsistence support in Estonia received EU food aid. The number of organizations acting between the EU and those in need has also risen on a yearly basis.
This year's aid will be handed out by August 31.
