Police Planning to Reform Informant Pay System
Police are planning to overhaul the system of paying informants to rule out the possibility that any dishonest police would keep the funds for themselves.
According to Postimees, fewer police officers will receive clearance to pay cash for information, and payments will only be made for significant information. On the other hand, the amounts will be larger than the current sums.
The police themselves have remained tight-lipped on the reform, but the daily said special units will trained for such transfers.
Recently a court convicted former narcotics officer Janek Pavlihhin for keeping thousands of euros which was to be given to informants. He said he paid around 100 euros for information 141 times, with one informant claiming he only received cash for expenses, far less than the sums mentioned by Pavlihhin in police reports.
