Concentration of Population Highest in Lasnamäe
Tallinn's easternmost disrict, the Lasnamäe suburb, is the most densely populated area in the country with up to 15,800 people per square kilometer on some streets.
Average population density in the country is 30 people per km2, down from 32 in the 2000 census, according to Statistics Estonia, which today released the population density figures from the 2011 census.
The EU average is 117 people per km2. Population density in Latvia and Lithuania is 36 and 52 per km2, respectively.
A total of 25,000 km2 or 55 percent of the nation is uninhabited, said the agency, calculated based on mapping the country into a grid of 1 km2 squares. A tenth of the area is sparsely populated, where there are only one or two people on average per km2.
