Siimann Not Planning to Run for Olympic Committee President
The term of the president of the Estonian Olympic Committee Mart Siimann will end after the London Olympic Games this summer and he has said that he is not interested in re-running for the position.
The two possible candidates so far are Vice President of the organization Neinar Seli and Secretary General Toomas Tõnise. "I have talked to both of them and they are good candidates," said Siimann, who has served as head of the Olympic Committee in 2001.
Siimann, however, remained diplomatic when asked who should take the leading position. "My position is that I should not interfere in this process at the moment to ensrure a fair game because that may influence the election," Siimann told sport.err.ee.
"I have my preferences but I will not reveal them," said Siimann, adding that hopefully more candidates will emerge.
The committee will not be setting any goals for athletes participating at the upcoming Olympic Games, said Siimann. He said that one medal could be considered a great success for Estonia and more would already be a miracle. No places on the pedestal, however, would be a failure.
