Kontaveit continues where she left off, beating opponent in 50 minutes
Estonia's new top tennis player Anett Kontaveit (WTA 98) continued her good form after reaching the top 16 in the US Open by beating Su-Wei Hsieh (WTA 112) 6:1, 6:3 in 50 minutes in the first round of a WTA tournament in China.
Kontaveit, who replaced Kaia Kanepi as Estonia's highest ranked female tennis at the latest rankings, will meet local Saisai Zheng (WTA 66) next in the 250,000-dollar tournament in Guangzhou, China.
Kontaveit, 19, beat a host of top 60 players at the US Open earlier in the month, climbing 56 places in the world rankings as a result.
Kanepi had faced Hsieh earlier in the year, losing in to the Taiwanese player 6:1, 6:4 at Wimbledon.
Kanepi lost in the second round of the US Open, and fell from 89th to 124th in the rankings. Kanepi, 30, achieved a career high of 15th in 2012, but she is known for bouncing back.
