85% of Estonia's Eurobasket ticket allotment already sold
Friday marked the first time basketball fans could buy tickets to watch the Estonian National Team play in the 39th FIBA European Basketball Championships.
Tickets sales have been extremely successful; in five days, more than 14,760 tickets have been sold for the block of seats designated for fans of Estonia.
"We are happy to see that in less than a week, the Estonian basketball fans purchased 85 percent of Estonian fans sectors tickets to support the national team,“ said Estonian Basketball Federation Secretary General Keio Kuhi in a prepared statement. "However, there is still the chance to purchase tickets and join."
The statement added there is still tickets available for all five of Estonia’s games. The 24 teams who qualified to the championships were drawn into four groups. Estonia’s draw, Eurobasket Group D in Riga, includes Latvia, Lithuania, Ukraine, Belgium and the Czech Republic.
It is Estonia's fifth tournament appearance, but its first since 2001. Estonia's opening game will be against the Czech Republic on September 5.
Kuhi encouraged fans to buy tickets locally, instead of going through Latvian or other sources, so that they are assured of sitting with Estonian fans.
Tickets are on sale until the end of the month through Sportland shops across Estonia.
