Estonia Sees Off Andorra 2-0
Henri Anier and Joel Lindpere scored to hand Estonia a second win against Andorra in the football World Cup qualifying tournament.
On a cold night in Tallinn, fans were kept waiting for the first goal as Estonia dominated and attacked, but failed to create any clear-cut chances.
It looked like it was going to be one of those games - where Estonia is expected to win but finds the favorite role overwhelming. But it was not to be, as exactly in the 45th minute, Konstantin Vassiljev lifted a ball to Anier, who didn't hesitate and gave Estonia the lead.
The second half started just the way the first half finished, with the home team piling on the pressure.
Tarmo Rüütli, Estonia's head coach, substituted both strikers in the 53rd minute, sending in Andres Oper, who has scored five in previous matches against Andorra, and Lindpere.
In the 61st, one of the numerous corners paid off as Tarmo Kink diverted the ball to Lindpere, who headed in from five meters to make it 2-0.
Dangerous chances were created, with Mošnikov in the 48th minute, Vassiljev in the 64th and Oper in the 81st minute coming close, but it remained 2-0 despite some late pressure from the mountain state.
The win means little in terms of qualifying prospects as Estonia is not expected to travel to Brazil for the 2014 World Cup, but games against the Netherlands (Tallinn, September 6), Hungary (away, September 10), Turkey (Tallinn, October 11) and Romania (away, October 15) are still on the calender.
