Kanepi Stuns Former #1 at French Open
Kaia Kanepi capitalized on her fifth match point to upset 9th seeded Caroline Wozniacki in an exciting French Open match , 6-1, 6-7, 6-3.
Kanepi was dominant in the first set, and stormed off to a 5-1 lead in the second set, possibly assisted by a missed call. Up 5-2, she had her first match point against the Dane at 40:30, then a second, but Wiozniacki broke serve and won 13 straight points as Kanepi appeared to completely collapse.
Kanepi regrouped in the third and once again was off to a 5-1 lead. Then the same pattern seemed to reassert itself -- two more match points, which she could not turn, and finally Wozniacki broke Kanepi's serve and climbed to within 5-3. Kanepi's serve held, though.
Kanepi will face Arantxa Rus in the next round.
