Piiroja Partially Accepts Tax Evasion Charges
According to a Norwegian daily, former captain of the Estonian national football team Raio Piiroja has plead guilty to charges of tax evasion while playing football in Norway.
The Norwegian state accuses Piiroja of failing to declare 218,000 euros of income between 2004 and 2009, when he played for Fredrikstad of Norway, Fredrikstad Blad reported.
According to Delfi, Piiroja said the true amount is 100,000 euros.
The former defender was due to appear in court in Norway at the end of April, but will not have to travel to the country after his confession and now waits for a ruling.
Twenty people from the same football club have been charged. Brian West, a US citizen who also played for Fredrikstad received a 10 month long suspended sentence for not declaring 150,000 euros of income.
