Kaia Kanepi is through to the third round of the US Open after upsetting Australian Samantha Stosur in three sets last night.

Kanepi, who is ranked 29 places below Stosur in the WTA rankings, lost the first set 3-6, but opened up a 5-0 lead in the second set, before wrapping it up 6-3.

Spectators were on the edge of their seats for the third and final set, with Kanepi taking the lead at 5-4 but failed to finish her opponent off.

In the tiebreaker, Stosur had two match points, failing to capitalize on either, with Kanepi than having two chances of her own, putting away the second one and winning the third set 7-6 (10-8 in the tiebreaker).

Kanepi's next opponent is Carla Suarez of Spain (WTA 16). Kanepi (WTA 50) has played against her seven times, winning more matches than she has lost.

Estonia's man in the NFL, the US American football league, had a game to remember in the last preseason contest.

Defensive lineman Margus Hunt had three sacks in the win against the Indianapolis Colts, leading the team to a 35-7 win, although both teams fielded largely non-starters.

Colts only scored in the last quarter, when Hunt was off the field. Hunt will begin his second season with the Cincinnati Bengals and will be hoping for more game time than in his first season.

Kelly Sildaru, perhaps the greatest hope for a medal at future Winter Olympic Games, won a freestyle-ski event in New Zealand.

Sildaru, who is only 12, scored 90.0 on her best attempt and beat Emma Dahlström (82.3), who was second. Dahlström was fifth at the Sochi Olympic games earlier in the year.
