First Full-Size Beach Football Field to Open
The first beach football field to meet international measurement requirements will be opened at the Arigato Sports Center in Tallinn on May 26.
The field was funded by the Nõmme Kalju football club, which for the last four years has held the Estonian beach football championship title. According to Kuno Tehva, president of the club, the idea came out of the necessity of ensuring better training conditions for the team.
In total, 1,500 tons of sand, acquired from the Nõmme silicate quarry, was used to build the pitch. The sand has been washed and filtered to give a soft landing for the athletes.
The opening ceremony of the beach football field will start at 10:00 on May 26. During the event, the Estonian beach football team, currently preparing for the FIFA world championship preliminaries, will go up against a Norwegian.
