Kanepi's Former Coach Looks to Train Russia's Panova
Siver Karjus, former coach of Estonia's highest-ranking tennis player Kaia Kanepi, has started working with Russia’s 23-year-old tennis player Alexandra Panova (WTA 79).
"Out of the options, she seemed the most [...] promising, despite the fact that there were other candidates with higher rankings," Karjus told Õhtuleht.
Karjus said that he has not yet sealed the coaching deal with Panova. The decision would be made and the details settled after they have jointly completed four tournaments. "We will get to know each other, determine whether we are compatible and should go on. It is essential that both sides show interest," said Karjus.
In March, Kanepi (WTA 33) and Karjus decided to go separate ways after having worked together for two years. The coach said that disagreements had started because of the negative influence that Kanepi’s psychologist had on the player.
