Plug pulled on €100,000 swimming project
A project costing 100,000 euros to form and train an elite group of swimmers has been canceled.
The coach hired for the project last year, Peter Mankoc, has returned to his native Slovenia and the swimmers have found new coaches.
President of the Estonian Swimming Federation Karol Kovanen told Õhtuleht he was happy with Mankoc, but that the Slovenian was only one part of the project, and the federation failed to back him fully. “He had a plan, but we were unable to bring it to life,” Kovanen added.
Kovanen said the project was launched to give the nation's best swimmers better conditions for training, adding that the team had potential to make it to the Olympic games.
The project involved Martti Aljand, Martin Liivamägi, Pjotr Degtjarov, Tess Grossmann and Martin Allikvee.
Kovanen said it will take a few weeks before the federation decides on the next course of action.
