Klavan turns down Premier League and its millions
Estonian football team's captain Ragnar Klavan has turned down FC Everton's offer to join the Premier League side and will stay with his current club FC Augsburg, German tabloid Bild reported.
The 29-year-old defender who has already earned 103 caps for Estonia and did not miss a single minute of playing time for Augsburg last season, was rumored to have caught the eye of Everton's coach Roberto Martinez with his strong performance in the Bundesliga.
Despite having previously hinted that playing in the Premium League would be a dream come true, Klavan has nevertheless declined Everton's offer and will stay with Bundesliga's fifth side Augsburg, which, unlike Everton, qualified for the UEFA Europa League.
"My family and I feel good here [in Germany]," Klavan told Bild. "Besides, Europa League is a nice reward for Augsburg. Of course it will be difficult, we must now play two matches almost every week. But this is exactly what every footballer wants," he said, adding that although it will be mentally exhausting, the team is ready for the challenge.
