Estonian Sports Press Association has revealed their choices for the "Athletes of the Year Awards". The favorites of the 42 voting members are hurdler Rasmus Mägi, fencer Erika Kirpu and the women's fencing team.
Rasmus Mägi, who took silver in the men's 400m hurdles at the European Athletics Championships this summer, was named male athlete of the year with 29 first choice votes. He was followed by discus thrower Gerd Kanter and wrestler Heiki Nabi.
Erika Kirpu and the women's fencing team made a clean sweep in the female and team categories, both getting all of the 42 first choice votes. High jumper Eleriin Haas and Epp Mäe were voted second and third best female athletes of 2014. Men's quad scull rowing team and men's national volleyball team placed second and third in the best teams category.
The coach of the year title went to Anne and Taivo Mägi, the parents and coaches of Rasmus Mägi. They were followed by fencing coach Kaido Kaabermaa and Heiki Nabi's trainer Henn Põlluste.
