Kaia Kanepi was defeated by Jelena Jankovic of Serbia in the quarterfinals of the Women's Tennis Association tournament in Copenhagen on Friday.

Going up against the former world number one, Kanepi is currently 34th in the WTA rankings. The Estonian lost the match 4-6, 6-1, 6-3.

The teetering match began with a powerful set-win by Kanepi, but Jankovic came back strong winning the final two sets.

Kanepi will next play in Estoril on April 30.

The season has not been a smooth ride for Kanepi, who broke up with her coach, Silver Karjus, last month and has had to cancel several tournaments due to an injury.
