Highest-earning Estonian athlete retires
After 10 seasons in the National Football League (NFL) in the United States, Estonian-born Michael Roos has announced his retirement.
Roos, 33 this year, was chosen in the second round of the 2005 draft. He played 148 games in the NFL, all for the Tennessee Titans, Õhtuleht reported.
He only missed one game in the first nine seasons, and that was due to having his appendix removed. Last season he suffered a serious knee injury.
“I'm excited to begin the rest of my life, and I am grateful to do so now, while I am fully healthy. Although I don't know what adventures the future holds, I know there will be family, friends, travel, whiskey, cigars and beer,” Roos said.
Roos moved to the United States in 1992 as a 10-year-old with his mother and brother and sister.
He has reportedly earned 47 million dollars (42 million euros) during his career, far outstripping other top Estonian athletes such as Mart Poom, Marko Märtin and Ragnar Klavan.
