Several road accidents triggered by black ice took place on the Tallinn-Rapla highway this morning, December 1, crippling traffic for hours, according to the North Prefecture.

At around 8:00, one person was seriously injured in a chain collision involving five cars.

Difficult ice conditions also caused a number of cars to drive off the road. Fortunately no one was hurt in those accidents, the prefecture said.

According to the Road Administration, highways across the nation are very slippery. The road surface temperature currently ranges between +2 and -4 degrees, which facilitates the formation of the nearly invisible black ice.
