Fewer People Diagnosed With Upper Respiratory Diseases
The number of people diagnosed with upper respiratory tract infections so far this year is 14 percent lower than the equivalent number for 2010, according to the Health Board.
With the coldest winter period still ahead, however, the figure will most likely rise. For example, last week, a total of 3,150 people across Estonia were diagnosed with upper respiratory illnesses, which increased the yearly count by 8 percent. According to the board, over half of them were children.
Last week, flu-like illnesses were recorded 65 times - 12 percent higher than the week before. Currently the spread-intensity of flu is quite low both in Estonia and Europe, the board said.
Precisely which virus type will dominate this winter has not yet been determined, however, due to the small sample of infected people.
