EU Health Specialists Discuss Prospects of E-Health
European physicians experts are meeting in Tallinn on September 15 to discuss "e-health“ - online services that make health care more accessible and convenient.
Dr. Madis Tiik, a general practitioner, told ETV that e-health may also be a solution for the lack of medical personnel in Estonia.
One idea, he said, could be the widespread adoption of tele-appointments. Tiik, who is himself from the island of Vormsi, recommended telecasting for instances where patients live in remote areas or islands. Such a service would also prove handy in cases where patients must quickly see a doctor on the same day or when doctors have aprubtly left the job and a long list of patients are left hanging.
Tiik pointed to the success of other e-health services, including digital prescriptions and appointments. "Actually, we have already obliviously accepted the new technology, which is especially important where resources should not be pointlessly wasted on waiting," said Tiik.
