'Spring Storm' Military Exercise Heats Up
The evaluation phase of the Kevadtorm (Spring Storm) military exercise got underway in southern Estonia over the weekend, in what is the first of three simulated battles to be held.
The Scouts Battalion and the Latvian infantry company will act as the enemy. Units will apply the battle experience they have received in the past two weeks in conditions that resemble a real shooting war as closely as possible.
Meanwhile, the Defense League and Defense Forces' corps of engineers gave the people of Mooste a bridge that locals can use to cut out what would otherwise be 20 kilometers of driving. The major construction project was unprecedented for the Defense League engineers in the Tartu district.
Held from May 4 to 20, with two phases of "action," this year's storm is taking place in southwestern Põlva County and parts of Tartu and Võru County. Over 500 additional artillery and anti-aircraft personnel and scouts from the northeastern defense district are participating.
