Explosives Units Pacify Slumbering Bombs
Bomb experts made trips to several parts of Estonia last weekend as potentially dangerous war relics continue to surface.
The explosives that needed neutralizing included grenades, mines and missles.
In the Tallinn suburb of Laagri, a grenade was unearthed during construction work. Another was found in nearby Jõgisoo, reported Postimees. In the southern Estonian town of Puide, two mortar shells discovered by farmers needed to be disposed of. Missiles were also found in Pärnu and the town of Põltsamaa.
Uncovering explosive material leftover from World War II is fairly common in Estonia, particularly as intense battles took place in areas that are sparsely populated. In April, the bomb squad recovered and disposed of around 100 explosive remnants in various regions of the country on just a single day.
