Ferry Delayed After Ramp Accident Crushes Trucks
A ramp leading to the a car deck of the Tallink Star, leaving Helsinki for Tallinn, collapsed on Thursday evening damaging four trucks.
Indrek Raudjalg, a spokesman for the company, told ETV late last night that the damage was not serious and the ship was expected to sail on Friday, but Tallink's website currently says that m/s Star is not in service today.
The company has asked all those with tickets on the m/s Star, sailing on the Tallinn-Helsinki line, to contact the company.
Estonian and Finnish authorities have allowed the passenger-less ferry to return to Tallinn, where remaining vehicles will be freed.
Raudjalg said that a part of the ramp that connected two truck decks snapped, causing two trucks to fall onto other trucks parked in the lower deck.
