Fourteen new automated roadside cameras will start operating in April: four in Tallinn and the rest on the E20 motorway linking Tallinn with Narva.

In Tallinn, the cameras will be located at the major Endla-Sõpruse intersection, Eesti Päevaleht reported.

The cameras istalled at the intersection will not only be used for monitoring the speed but also possible jumping of traffic lights and misuse of the public transportation lane.

In 2011, the Tallinn Transportation Department conducted week-long speed camera tests at the same intersection, registering around 4,000 traffic violations daily. According to estimates, the presence of traffic cameras would reduce the number of breaches by at least tenfold. The fines are expected to generate around 1.9 million euros of revenue.

According to Timo Vijar, the rest of the cameras will be installed on the Tallinn-Narva highway with particular emphasis on the dangerous Jõhvi-Narva road section.

Currently there are 10 dummy fixtures and 20 operating speed cameras installed along the E263 Tallinn-Tartu and E67 Tallinn-Pärnu higways.
