The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that the video of seven kidnapped Estonian cyclists posted on Youtube was uploaded from Damascus, Syria.
The report was published in Lebanon's news website Naharnet, which also said that investigators know the names and addresses of the people responsible for uploading the video. Meanwhile, the authorities have not succeeded in identifying the senders of two emails from the purported abductors.
The seven Estonian tourists were kidnapped during a cycling trip in Lebanon's Bekaa Valley on March 23. Their current location has not been determined.
Investigators and officials are leaning toward the scenario that the kidnappers are politically motivated, and not just opportunistic criminals.
On April 6, the obscure organization allegedly behind the abduction, named Movement of Rebirth and Reform, demanded a ransom. The statement said that the kidnapped Estonians were in their hands and that they were in good health, but no further details were given about contacting the sender or the size of the sum desired for ransom.
