Alcohol Price Exceeds EU Average by 6.3%
Although the cost of food and non-alcoholic beverages in Estonia is below the EU average, the price of alcoholic drinks is 6.3 percent higher, according to the recent report by Eurostat.
The highest price tags on alcoholic drinks in the three Baltic States are in Latvia, where the buyers pay 13.2 percent more than the EU average. In Lithuania, however, alcohol is the least expensive, remaining 5 percent below the EU average.
Finland has the highest prices for alcohol in the EU, exceeding the average by 70.2 percent, wrote Postimees. Cheapest booze is to be found in Romania, where the prices remain 30.1 percent below the average.
However, European countries with the highest prices for alcoholic beverages are outside of the EU. For example in Norway they cost 2.5 times more than the EU average, while in Turkey and Iceland the prices are twice the EU average.
