Estonian discus thrower Gerd Kanter has won a silver medal at the IAAF World Championships in Daegu, South Korea.

Kanter's 66.95-meter throw landed him in second place behind Robert Harting of Germany, who managed a 68.97 in the August 30 competition. Iran's Ehsan Hadidi came in third with 66.08.

Fellow Estonian Märt Israel also fared well, reaching fourth place with 65.20, reported sport.err.ee.

Kanter, who took gold in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, scored his personal best in Helsingborg, Sweden in 2006 when he threw 73.38 meters, the third longest discus throw in history.
