The Estonian Internet Foundation's domain disputes committee freed up a dot-ee domain name for Wikimedia Inc. that had been claimed by a speculator.
The committee found that an individual had intentionally violated trademark rights by registering for the domain apparently to later sell it. The content of the active website was almost identical to the Estonian-language content provided by the complainant, Wikimedia.
Wikimedia filed its complaint on September 9. Last month, the foundation settled another case in favor of a well-known trademark owner.
"The message to hustlers is that gambling with dot-ee domain names will not pay off. Trademark owners will file a claim with the committee, will prove their rights over the domain and will be awarded [the rights]," Andres Kauts, chair of the Internet Foundation, said last month.
