Kaia Kanepi has sealed a spot in the finals of Brisbane International, the first major women's tennis event of the season.
Italian Fransesca Schiavone, ranked 11 by WTA, but not on top of her game, was no match for Kanepi in the semifinals, reported sport.err.ee. By the second set, Schiavone had no fight left in her, ending the match with a 6-3, 6-0 score.
Meanwhile in the second semifinal, Belgian Kim Clijsters, the world's former number one, was forced to pull out due to a hip injury, sending Slovakian Daniela Hantuchova, WTA 24, to meet with Kanepi in the final.
Preparing for the Australian Open, Kanepi said early today on her Facebook page that she would not be playing at Apia International Sydney because of her success at Brisbane.
Saturday's final will begin at 19:00 local time (11:00 Estonian time).
