Estonian tennis player Kaia Kanepi climbed eight places in the WTA rankings to become 26th, after winning her third tournament in Estoril in the weekend.
Kanepi played against Spain’s Carla Suarez Navarro in the final game beating her rival 3-6, 7-6 (8-6), 6-4. The final game of the tournament lasted two hours and 37 minutes, sport.err.ee reported.
"Naturally, it was a major victory in the sense that the tournament passed without coaching. Only with help from my physical training coach Krisstjan [Prüüs]. I am really very satisfied. After Brisbane, I didn't have the best of time and all those other things... This victory right now is a wonderful sensation for me," Kanepi told ETV.
Kanepi has twice played against Navarro. In 2009, the Estonian lost to her in Wimbledon. Two years later, however, Kanepi beat Navarro in the Tallinn Fed Cup.
Kanepi won her first WTA tournament in singles in Palermo in 2010, followed by another title at Brisbane International this year.
