Keila Orphanage Receives Confiscated Fuel
The Tax and Customs Board delivered 6,000 liters of confiscated illicit fuel to the Keila Children's Village on Thursday.
As the fuel, confiscated last year, was deemed suitable for the type of boiler-house the institution uses. The Harju County Court decided to donate it to the orphanage, which looks after 52 children aged between 2 and 17.
“That is great help - practically two-and-a-half months of free heating and heating is our biggest expense,” said Indrek Juss, who heads the village.
Most of the fuel will be saved for the upcoming winter.
Arvids Tisler of the Tax and Customs Board said that if larger quantities are confiscated, the fuel is sold at auctions, with the proceeds channeled to state coffers.
Tisler also said that fuel is not the only commodity that can be handed over to charities, adding that counterfeit clothing can also be given away if the brand labels can be removed.
