Interview: French Minister Discusses Digital Economy
ETV interviewed French minister of innovation and digital economy, Fleur Pellerin, when she was in Estonia recently.
Pellerin and journalist Tarmo Maiberg discussed national ID cards, which in Estonia allow citizens to carry out Internet-based operations such as digital signing, voting, filing taxes and obtaining prescription drugs.
While France has the prerequisite technology, Pellerin said data protection issues inhibit the country from adopting biometric ID cards and the types of services used in Estonia. She said adopting such services would boost the economy.
With regard to privacy, the two also discussed the recent revelations of purported US spying activities. Pellerin suggested that a US-EU data protection agreement signed in 2000 be reviewed.
The interview begins after an introduction in Estonian.
